This antique inkwell tray by Stjärn Metall is a quietly compelling desk object — functional, well-made, and full of character. The raised sailing ship motif that runs across the metal surface gives it a distinctly nautical identity, while its generous proportions and solid construction suggest something designed to be used and admired in equal measure. The original removable glass ink insert remains intact, a detail that sets this piece apart from many surviving examples.

About the Item

Designed as a traditional writing stand, the tray would have sat on the desk of a well-appointed study, office, or ship’s captain’s quarters. Today it carries that same quiet authority — equally at home in a period-style library, an industrial loft, or a collector’s display. It is the kind of piece that asks to be noticed without demanding attention.
