There is something quietly arresting about a well-made sommerso vase. The technique — layering a richly coloured glass core inside clear crystal — rewards slow looking. This 1960s piece, attributed to Paul Kedelv for Flygsfors, does exactly that. Its deep amethyst purple core glows from within the clear casing, shifting with the light from violet to plum depending on where you place it.

The form itself is organic and considered — a flowing silhouette with elegant pulled peaks that give the vase its distinctive sculptural presence. It is the kind of object that earns its spot on a shelf rather than simply filling it. Whether displayed alone or alongside other mid-century Scandinavian glass, it holds its own without effort.
