Description
A wonderfully characterful vintage Italian ceramic mantel dog, modelled as a seated spaniel with long ears and an exceptionally solemn expression.
Made in Italy, the figure is finished in a soft ivory-white glaze with hand-painted black detailing and generous touches of gold. The gilded collar, chain and small padlock-style pendant give it the traditional decorative character associated with classic European mantel dogs and Staffordshire-style spaniels.
Its slightly naïve modelling is part of the appeal, with plenty of personality in the face. A lovely standalone decorative piece for a mantel, bookshelf or collected display of vintage animal ceramics.
