Description
Authentic antique Swedish wooden butter churn, complete with its original lid and long wooden plunger.
Traditionally known in Sweden as a smörkärna, this tall churn was made for working cream into butter in the rural household. The body is constructed from vertical wooden staves held firmly by iron bands, with a removable wooden lid and original plunger with pierced churning disc.
Years of practical use have given the wood a wonderfully deep colour and naturally worn surface. Now retired from dairy duty, it makes a superb piece of Swedish farmhouse decor, primitive folk art or rustic kitchen display.
