There is something quietly commanding about this cobalt blue vase. Designed by Göte Augustsson for Ruda Glasbruk during the 1960s, it carries the kind of sculptural weight that stops you mid-step. The deep, vivid blue is striking on its own — but it is the heavily textured surface that gives this piece its true character, a rugged, almost carved quality that sets Ruda’s work apart from the smoother output of many Scandinavian glassmakers of the same period.

That texture was no accident. It was achieved through specialised mould techniques that pushed the molten glass into an organic, architectural form — retaining all the luminosity of hand-crafted art glass while giving it the presence of something closer to stone or weathered timber. The result is a vase that feels simultaneously industrial and alive.

It works beautifully displayed alone on a shelf or windowsill, where the light can move through it. It holds its own just as well grouped with other Scandinavian glass and ceramics, anchoring a collection with its depth of colour and form.
